I was looking at this site that reviews home equipment, and it occurred to me that I would really benefit from getting some free weights and working out at home. It’s such a pain in the butt to drive to the gym each day when I could be spending that time working out at home and get my workout done in half the time. I also like the idea of being able to blast the type of music I like to listen to instead of putting up with whatever they have on at the gym.
So the stuff I was looking at getting was an Olympic barbell, some dumbbells for sale they recommend, and I’m also considering some of the kettlebells for sale that they reviewed. I figure with all of that stuff, I would be able to put together a gym that would at least come pretty close to what they have at a health club. Heck, it might even be better since it’s pretty rare to see bells at any of the gyms I’ve looked at.
The one thing I’m thinking about is how much all of this equipment will cost versus how much it costs to join a gym. The thing is though, when you pay a monthly fee for a gym membership, you don’t get anything of residual value. After you pay your monthly fee, you get nothing if you stop going. With home gym equipment, I can sell anything I don’t use whenever I’m done with it and likely get a decent chunk of change in return. I think that fact, combined with the fact that I would get more use out of it makes me think that it’s a good investment.
I figure for around $1,500 I can put together a pretty nice gym, and then maybe add to my equipment down the road for Christmas or whenever I see a good deal for something I need.
